Sevierville Editorial

Sevierville, TN   Sevierville is often billed as “Your Hometown in the Smokies.” The Sevier County seat is, indeed, the quintessential “down home” community–a great place to live, work or raise a family. At first glance, the pace of life seems a little laid back. But don’t let that placid veneer mislead you. Sevierville is a great place to vacation in the Smokies, offering plenty to see and do.
The town has a healthy choice of accommodations, ranging from independently owned hotels and motels to award-winning national franchises. Near town, as well as in the outlying areas, are numerous resorts and other vacation rental properties, including log cabins, condominiums and quaint cottages. If you’re into more bare-bones conditions, you‚ll even find plenty of places to hook up an RV or pitch a tent.
Fun is there for the taking while you’re in Sevierville. In spring and summer, you can watch professional baseball action as the Tennessee Smokies play 70 home games at their stadium just off Interstate 40. Racing fans will want to check out NASCAR Speed Park, a veritable haven of go-cart action.
While you’re in town, you’ll also discover the new Rainforest Adventures reptile museum as well as attractions like underground caverns and a petting zoo. Music fans will have plenty to sing about, courtesy of the toe-tappin sounds of country, bluegrass, oldies rock and gospel presented nightly at Southern Nights Theater.
Of course, don’t forget to break out the plastic while staying in Sevierville. Bargain hunters will enjoy exploring the city’s two outlet malls, both of which give shoppers great deals on top-name merchandise of all kinds. The town is also host to miles and miles of antique shops and flea markets where you might just discover your next family keepsake.
If recreation is your thing, Sevierville is a terrific choice. Nearby Douglas Lake offers two recreational areas and access to 30,600 acres of water–perfect for fishing, boating, camping and swimming. You’ll even find overnight rentals that will keep you close to all the lakeside fun.
Sevierville is also home to several horseback riding stables, where you can relax on scenic mountain and lakeside trails. On hot summer days, you may want to enjoy the cool waters of the French Broad or Little Pigeon Rivers by way of a canoe or inner tube excursion. And if you’re a golf fanatic, you won’t have to travel far to get a fix–the city’s Eagle’s Landing Golf Course is only a short hop from downtown.
